The lights are off in the hallway at work so it's nice and dark. My monitors are giving off most off the light... this is wonderful

The Worst thing about Patching
... is when your backout directory does not exist. Then when you try to backout of a patch, you can't. So what can you do but rebuild your server ... one more time.

OK... solaris and smpatch are really nice. But patching a sun system is like pulling teeth. Ugh.
...
I found www.wgbh.org/classical the other day, and I have not been disappointed. It's nice to find a good classical station to listen to.

Ah... early morning Nagioa pluging writing.... The birds are singing, the sun is shinging, and return codes are zero. Life is good.

Long Week
Yeah... I know it's been a short work week. But for some reason it feels just the opposite. I guess getting bounced around multiple support tickets (Sun, Blackboard) can take a lot out of a person. Even when you don't have much to do. It will be nice to resolve those things and get back to other projects.
I finally got my iMac back. If I haven't said it before, Time Machine is the best program out there. I just need to find a better, faster disk than my little PATA. It's going to take all night to back up my drive again.
Oh well.
Zen time!

A funny thing happened... I saw the very same scrubs episode I watched this morning while at the gym.

I have to say... Ubuntu eye-candy is really great. I think I spend half my time placing windows around the cube than doing actual work.

Computer Rebuild Day
My iMac died on me this morning. So that was fun. I know it's the disk, and it's been flaky for the past couple of months. Hopefully the Mac servicecenter will replace it this time, instead of telling me it's nothing more than a corrupted OS.
Work was dead today. Really dead. No one was there. That's the nice thing about an University during the summer time. So I took the time to rebuild my workstation to Ubuntu 8.04. I originally put 7.04 on it and a subsequent upgrade turned it into a flake monger. Compiz would die for no reason, the screen saver wouldn't take at time. It was time to rebuild.
The problem with rebuilding is I have to reinstall all the programs I use on a day to day basis. It's easy to do with Ubuntu... with any Linux OS nowdays... but it's still a pain. The biggest one is getting all the perl modules loaded.
Hence why I didn't update my blog until now. The CLI program I wrote is in perl.
Today is a day to just sit around the porch and watch the ducks quack.
Oh... and yesterday's server that would not start? Corrupted XML in the config file!!! What caused it? The program.... a known bug. Fun.
Off to Zen.

Don't you hate it when your server doesn't restart and you have to stay at work... waiting for tech support to call you back, so you can bring up the only system that people want to use? I do. 8-)
...
waiting for 4:30 so I can restart blackboard. There's nothing finer than a large, monolithic application that has a single access point.

Looking at why people can't log into the Spam Quarantine Page. I've never seen PHP code before... it looks nice and clean.

It's clasical music time... www.cpr.org/listen . That's what Wedel is listening to now. All that jazz was making him a little... existential. "I bark, ergo WOOF"
